Moladh: praise
Pronounced mol-lugh, and means both praise as a noun and as a verb. Many Gaelic congregations will hear the word today in the context of religious worship, as in praising God, but the word is also used in secular contexts too. A well-known and cynical Gaelic proverb goes "Mas math leat do mholadh faigh bàs, mas math leat do chàineadh pòs" – mas mah latt do vol-lugh faa-yee baas, mas mah latt do khan-yagh pos – "If you want to be praised then die, if you want to be criticised then marry."

In the modern language moladh also means recommendation, as in the recommendations of a report.
