FIREFIGHTERS battled to protect homes last night, as parts of Scotland were hit by flash floods.
The main areas affected were Hamilton, Bothwell and Cambuslang, all in Lanarkshire.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service said heavy rain, combined with an already high water table, sparked the floods.
In one incident in Hamilton Road, Cambuslang
, crews were called to a car up to its roof in water, but were able to establish that no-one was trapped inside.
Alan Fairbairn, group commander, said: "There were a couple of cars in water trapped up to their roofs with the possibility of people being inside. These reports had not been confirmed."
Crews helped people whose properties were threatened, but no-one was evacuated and there were no reports of injuries.
In six hours from 3pm, the force responded to 127 flooding-related calls for assistance. In East Kilbride, one lane on the westbound A725 expressway was blocked by flooding just beyond Blantyre.
Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade also received about a dozen calls yesterday evening, mostly from householders in West Lothian. The A706 was closed for a few hours between Linlithgow and the B792.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency issued 13 watches across Scotland, meaning flooding was possible.
